Who we are
Hi! We’re so happy you’re here.
As a way of introduction — we’re Julia and Marc, a husband and wife team, and the founders of Music with Melody.
We dreamed up the idea for Music with Melody while spending time with our nieces and nephews over the holidays. We started playing some of our favorite songs from various genres—rock, jazz, folk, and more—and soon enough, we had a full-blown living room sing-along and dance party (as one does)!
Afterward, we began discussing how rarely kids are exposed to a wide range of music, especially genres outside the mainstream. We noted how uncommon it is for children to see or engage with sheet music these days. Additionally, we talked about the power of learning the story behind a song: its origins, who wrote it, and what it reveals about its time, place, and culture.
Our goal was to create something simple, creative, and meaningful to help kids — and people of all ages — engage with music, reflect on it, and cultivate curiosity about the world around them. We wanted to connect rhythm with history, sound with story, and perhaps inspire a future musician, songwriter, or lifelong lover of music.
When it came time to decide how we wanted to share these lessons, we knew right away it had to be something tangible. We chose mail — real paper, real envelopes — because we wanted this to feel like something special.
There’s something about receiving a letter that sparks curiosity. It slows you down. It makes you want to open it right away — or savor it.
That rhythm is intentional. We hope each month’s delivery to feel like an invitation: to explore a new genre, learn about a song’s origin, or dive into a different era or culture. Not all at once. Not all on a screen. But little by little,
over time.
These lessons are meant to be trampolines — something to bounce off of, spark questions, and lead to new research, listening, and connections.
And yes, part of this is about stepping away from our devices! So much of our day is filtered through a screen. While tech has its place, we wanted to offer a different kind of learning. Tactile. Quiet. Rooted in story, rhythm, and reflection.
As musicians, we also know how powerful it is to see music on a page. Sheet music is its own kind of language, and once you start to make meaning from it, the whole world of music opens up. Notes and rhythms become stories you can read, feel, and maybe even one day write yourself.
Each Music with Melody lesson is a small chance to slow down, connect, and explore music in a way that sticks.
We’re so glad you’re here for it.
Musically yours,
Julia & Marc
